Rotary Morningside food drive helps the community
MORNINGSIDE – A total of 172 bags of groceries were collected along with R38 000 worth of loose food items.
The Rotary Club of Morningside was able to reach dozens of community members in need with the help of its Christmas food collection drive last year.
As part of a series of emergency food relief drives held in 2020 and last year, the Christmas drive saw shoppers from Morningside Shopping Centre donate loose non-perishable food items or sponsor a bag of groceries to the value of R99.
The feeding scheme Soul Food African also donated 225 bags of Powa Pak pap.
According to Rotarian Jack Chen, a total of 172 bags of groceries were collected alongside R38 000 worth of loose food items.
On December 15, 120 bags were delivered to the Oratile Early Childhood Development Centre in Diepsloot which aids various families.
Various Rotarians also loaded up their vehicles and made a trip out to a disadvantaged community in Munsieville, Krugersdorp, where 50 vulnerable families received a bag of groceries each, along with toiletries donated by the Rotary Club of Krugersdorp.
“We want to thank the Morningside community for once again coming to the aid of those less fortunate this Christmas. It just goes to show that when you ask, you receive.
“Here at Rotary, we’re happy to keep on asking, if it means we can help make life a little easier for those living on the fringe,” said Chen.
