Hobart Grove pays it paw-ward

Pet nutrition brand Royal Canin thanks the community of Bryanston for its eagerness to recycle.

In an effort to drive recycling in the community, the brand recently launched a reverse vending machine in partnership with Imagines Earth.

A machine stationed at Hobart Grove saw increased traffic with residents taking full advantage of the recycling convenience.

According to Ursula Ndhlovu, corporate affairs director at Royal Canin South Africa, the machines not only encouraged more people to recycle but for every item recycled, Royal Canin will donate 1kg of pet food to an animal shelter in need.

“You may have heard of ‘pay it forward’ a movement encouraging acts of kindness that are passed forwards from one person to another.

“We’re taking that to the next level by introducing ‘pay it paw-ward’, where we hope to create a more caring society, and a better world for pets,” she said.

With a goal of 10 000 recycles items, the nutritional brand aims to donate 10 000kg of pet food which will go a long way in alleviating the strain on pet shelters.

“We’re urging consumers to take plastic, glass, Tetra Pak and metal items to the reverse vending machines. Your act of goodness means we can pay it forward to animals in shelters,” added Ndhlovu.

The reverse vending machines accept most barcoded glass, plastic, Tetra Pak, and metal items that are no larger than two liters and are in a solid form, for example, hard plastic, not packets or bags.
