Mavericks and Guest team battle it out on the court

Tamzym Smith of the Mavericks dodgeball team acknowledges and thanks her team for the hard work on their latest victory.

The current home of Sandton dodgeball, Sandton Action Sports, has seen a major increase in the number of participants in their winter season, according to the night manager of the facility Sam Ndlovu.

And with only days away from reaching the winter season conclusion, the Mavericks were up against the Guest team on June 14.

The first league match of the night started off on a high note as players from both sides went into attack mode. Skills shown between the teams was nothing short of amazing. The Mavericks were quick to show their dominance as they took the lead in the first round.

Player of the Guest team, Imaan Hassim, was the last person standing in her team on three occasions. Her attempts of saving her team from an embarrassing defeat resulted in the players picking up their levels of performance.

The tug of war ended in a 6–3 victory for the Mavericks which shows that experience sometimes outweighs skills and agility.

“We are doing much better than we did last season. Our strategy for our first game was definitely communication, team work and patience,” said the captain of Mavericks, Tamzym Smith.

When asked about the game from the perspective of the Guest team, Hassim and her captain, Brigitte Stander jokingly comment that cheaters never prospered.

Both teams ended the match with handshakes, laughs and recaps.
