Canoeists from Sandton recently joined dozens of paddlers as they competed in the Pete Marlin Surfski Race in East London.
Local paddlers recently ventured to East London to enjoy the Pete Marlin Surfski Race.
Graham Neate and two teams consisting of Joe Torlage and Carlo Natali, and Gavin Coetzer and Gary Ralph joined dozens of paddlers from local clubs across Gauteng to take on the two-day race.
The race covered distances of 18km to 23km per day with courses varying from time to time depending on the weather, currents, and wind.

According to Gauteng Canoe Union’s Jennie Dallas, the beauty of the scenery was only enhanced by the wonder of viewing dolphins and whales along the water.
“The main gathering place for pre-race information and details as well as the race start, and finish was at the East London Lifesaving club at Nahoon Beach. Sponsors included Dis-Chem, with sub-sponsors Powerade, Hansa, Fenn, Seymour Properties and VQS / Investec,” said Dallas.
