Small businesses, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts were ‘flying’ at the Sandton Convention Centre for the annual three-day Cannabis Expo.
Africa’s largest cannabis event, aimed at educating and breaking the stigma surrounding cannabis, welcomed hundreds of attendees from November 18 to 20.

According to expo director Silas Howarth, it was the perfect mixture of business and lifestyle with more than 150 exhibitors representing organisations and businesses across the industry.

“[There were] multiple spaces to explore including the cannabis food market, the expo hall, the cannabis music festival as well as the convention stage and serious networking spaces and opportunities,” said Howarth.

Legislation surrounding the domestic and private use of cannabis was changed in 2018. According to the Constitutional Court, adults are only permitted to consume cannabis products in private places.

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition in particular invited several small cannabis businesses to host stalls at the expo, giving them a platform to share their work and businesses with the community.
