Representative of Bryanston Sports Club addresses City Power issue

General manager of Bryanston Sports Club, Pat Carolin, assures residents that the club is working very closely with City Power to resolve what they maintain is an error in the amount they allegedly owe the entity.

Bryanston Sports Club’s power supply was cut by City Power recently.

“As part of our aggressive revenue collection drive, City Power paid a visit to several businesses and residential areas during an operation in Randburg,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.

According to Mangena, the club owed the utility R2.3 million.
“We encourage customers who are in arrears to approach our service delivery centres across all regions so that arrangements can be made as we regard these operations as the last resort.”.

The general manager of the club Pat Carolin said, “We have been working with City Power trying to resolve this issue. Our major frustration was that we were not served any notice of any outstanding amount or invoices and we were not provided with a pre-termination notice. The account number and account name were not of the establishment. We reaffirm our commitment to working with City Power to resolve this issue in a peaceful manner.”

According to Carolin, the club had faced a lot of backlash from social media users which resulted in their image being tainted.

“We need them [City Power] to issue an apology for the defamation and reputational damage that they have done to us based on the fact that we have not been in the wrong. We are a compliant club, we always pay our invoices and statements. We have never received any invoices for any of the outstanding claims.”
When Sandton Chronicle contacted Mangena about the issue, he said they had followed protocols to allow certain parties to pay without having their energy supply taken away.

“We gave everyone an open window and no payments were made, we had to take action,” said Mangena. “We will not be issuing an apology to the representatives of Bryanston Sports Club.”
City Power restored the club’s power on February 13.
