My Pet & I: Tarryn Wishart shares her 3-year-old best friend
Hazel Grace and Tarryn Wishart: an Africanis Dachshund breed and her owner.
Sandton local Tarryn Wishart shared glimpses into her life’s experience journeying with Hazel Grace, her three-year-old Africanis and Dachshund crossbreed companion.
“Hazel Grace and I met at a shopping centre, funnily,” Wishart said. “The Wollies Animal shelter in Pretoria had brought through some puppies to the Broadacres Shopping Centre.”

According to Wishart, she was 26 when she adopted Hazel Grace, with whom she shares many fond memories. Their fondest memory, Wishart shared, was the day she brought Hazel Grace home with her.
“I never knew how much I needed her in my life,” said Wishart. “Every morning, Hazel gets a biscuit; [when] we go running together – I swear I’ve never seen a dog happier.”

Wishart and Hazel Grace reside in Bryanston, where Wishart also works.
According to Wishart, Hazel Grace is fond of Probono dog biscuits, and even has her own wardrobe, with too many outfits to count.

Wishart is encouraging to anyone looking to open their hearts and homes to a pet dog – or Africanis and Dachshund cross breed companion.
“They are the most loving social butterflies that will bring so much joy into your life; definitely a companion for life,” Wishart advised. “Also, make sure you take up running as a hobby as well, because they are clearly built for it. Hazel runs with me at least three times a week.”
