Sandton SAPS welcomes new Vispol commander
A new Visible Policing commander has been appointed to SAPS in Sandton.
There’s a new commander in town. Sandton SAPS has announced the appointment of Colonel Mmaserame Mofokeng as the station’s new Vispol commander. The appointment was finalised on September 1, and Mofokeng began her service to Sandton a month later on October 1.
Mofokeng, describing herself as ‘the new sheriff in town’, has been a police officer since March 17, 1995.

“Before I was appointed here at Sandton as Vispol commander, I was a station commander in Duduza SAPS,” said Mofokeng, outlining her journey as a police services member. “Firstly, I was a warrant officer; thereafter I was a relief commander with Crime Prevention; later on, I was appointed as a relief commander on the level of a captain at railway police; then, in 2014, I was appointed as a lieutenant-colonel as a relief commander at Germiston SAPS.”
According to Mofokeng, the working relationship between SAPS and the CPF, as well as the security officers around Sandton is strong, positive and productive. “They are always hands-on; they’re always assisting whenever we need them. As soon as they receive information that something has occurred in a certain area, the security officers, as well as the CPF assist us to look for a certain vehicle that was involved in the commission of a crime.”

Mofokeng has wasted no time in putting elbow-grease into her new position towards exposing the criminals and syndicate networks operating in the wider Sandton region.
“I will come up with a strategy to stretch all the resources at my disposal [in stymieing] all those stubborn crimes,” Mofokeng said, concluding with a highlight of some examples of persistent crimes. “Right now, we have the challenge of house robberies, house break-ins, theft out of motor vehicles, and they all occur during the day. Most of them during the day.”
