WATCH: Cosmo City residents march to Eskom’s Megawatt Park

Cosmo City residents travelled to Megawatt Park to let Eskom know that they are tired of living without power.

Residents from Cosmo City Extension 8 A and B staged a protest outside Megawatt Park in Sandton today, February 22 to raise their community’s electricity instability concerns with the power utility.

Watch:

Community members claim to have been living with this situation for the past three years.  Ext 8A and B communities have struggled with the power utility’s unstable supply of electricity, as they feel that it hurts their community, particularly concerning food wastage. Food insecurity and the insane cost of living have made the impact of incessant blackouts particularly devastating to low-income communities.

Residents have been picketing sporadically for the past three years as they’re continually without a stable electricity supply to their households.

“When it’s hot or cloudy the load sheds,” said resident Cathy Makhubela. “When you sneeze, our electricity goes.”

Extension 8 resident Jennifer Dibetle said she’s exhausted by the situation.

“Tell them that we are tired of living without electricity,” Makhubela said.
