Chiquita’s field day in Bryanston

Chiquita walks around Bryanston shopping centre with a strut and a smile to share with anybody.

Bryanston continues proving to be canines’ favourite place to immerse themselves in human society. This week, Chiquita Bennett was out and about on April 4 with her mom Anne, and her mom’s best friend Dawn Van Schalkwyk.

Van Schalkwyk was minding over Chiquita at Bryanston Shopping Centre while Bennett was doing her shopping.

She’s been coming to this centre since she was six to eight weeks old with me and her mommy,” Van Schalkwyk said. “We walk around and everybody knows us here, especially in the crazy store and the art shop. They just love her.”

Chiquita is a two-year-old Yorkshire terrier breed; so her fur is all the clothing she needs. In terms of food, Chiquita has a fondness for human food.

“If you put her pellets down, she doesn’t want that because she wants your food,” Van Schalkwyk explained as Chiquita sniffed away at a journalist’s heels. “She’s not one for clothes; she gets too warm anyway.”

Chiquita and her mom Anne reside in Kensington B, though Bryanston Shopping Centre is on Chiquita’s list of favourite spaces to go exploring with her human friends.

“She loves going into the petshop [here]; we looked for her treats, but unfortunately they’re out of stock now,” Van Schalkwyk said. “We take her there to Lifestyle Home Garden; we were there on March 29 and she just loves walking around there.”

Facts about Chiquita:

Age: She just turned two.

Favourite treat: Beef sinew.
