A growing sport with a fun twist, Sandton locals discovered the joy of padel, thanks to Planet Fitness and Africa Padel.

Padel, one of the fastest-growing sports globally, is making strong inroads into South Africa, and Sandton locals are embracing it with enthusiasm.

The Discovery Padel Courts in Sandton were alive with energy on May 7 as Planet Fitness and Africa Padel hosted an engaging educational event designed to introduce the sport to newcomers.

With expertly guided sessions across multiple courts, participants quickly picked up the basics of the game, which blends elements of tennis and squash in a fast-paced, social environment.

According to a guest, Mpona Bereng, this event was an opportunity for her to experience padel as a fun and active lifestyle option.

Ceri Hannan, head Planet Fitness instructor, gave guests a 15-minute pre-game workout. From footwork drills, to rallying basics, the event succeeded in breaking down barriers for beginners.

“Padel is not only a great way to stay fit; it is also incredibly fun and accessible,” said Amy Hopkins, one of the event organisers. “We are excited to see how the community continues to grow.”
