Long-standing excavation at 84 Katherine Street leaves residents high and dry
A joint effort between Joburg Water and private contractors to address water supply issues at 84 Katherine Street has hit a snag, with residents left to deal with exposed water pipes, electric wires and leaks.
According to Ward 91 councillor Andrew Stewart, the excavation has been ongoing due to the construction site on Katherine Street, which has impacted the water supply for complexes on either side.
“Councillors are finding that reinstatements from JW are taking a month or longer, such is the current reinstatement backlog. But, I think now it is time for JW to do the right thing on the excavation at 84 Katherine.

“It’s unacceptable that residents are being left to deal with the consequences of this excavation for an extended period. Joburg Water needs to prioritise the reinstatement work and provide a clear timeline for completion.”

When asked about the next steps, Stewart advised, “For exact time frames and technical explanation, you would need to speak to Joburg Water.”
The Sandton Chronicle reached out to JW for comment on July 8, but at the time of publication, there was no comment. Updates will be provided once received.
