Commuters travelling along Katherine Street in Sandton are facing major traffic delays following the conversion of one lane into a dedicated Rea Vaya bus lane.
The change, which appears to have been introduced recently, has sparked frustration among motorists heading into Sandton during peak hours, with reports of gridlocked traffic stretching through key intersections.

Many drivers are questioning whether a proper traffic impact study was conducted before the change was made.
The move is part of the City of Johannesburg’s ongoing efforts to expand the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system across the city. However, with Sandton being one of Johannesburg’s busiest commercial hubs, the lane reduction has raised concerns about how the city plans to balance public transport expansion with private vehicle demand.
