Despite days of rain and several delays, the Rivonia Wall Clean-up finally went ahead on November 2, and the results are hard to miss.

Residents from Rivonia, members of the Asezwao group, and Ward 91 councillor Andrew Stewart came together to paint the wall along Rivonia Road and tidy up the surrounding area.

The initiative aimed to restore pride in the neighbourhood, and improve one of the key gateways into Sandton.

“It’s a joint venture between myself, residents, and the Asezwao community group,” said Stewart. “We realised that the entrances leading into the Sandton CBD were not in great shape, and we wanted to do something about that.”
He added that while the timing conveniently coincides with preparations for the upcoming G20 Summit, the project’s purpose extends beyond the event. “Even outside of the G20, it’s important for Sandton to look presentable. The CBD is a major business and tourism hub, and many people form their impressions of South Africa based on their experiences here.”

Volunteers spent the day repainting the wall, removing graffiti, and cleaning up litter around the area.

Stewart expressed his gratitude to everyone involved. “I would like to extend a big thank you to the residents, especially Vivek Padia, chairperson of the Inandas Home Owners Association, and to Asezwao. This is a great initiative, and I hope to work with them again on more community projects in the future.”
