Farewell to Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman

Ward 102 now moves into a new phase, carrying forward the projects, progress and spirit of community Harman helped nurture.

Ward 102 bids farewell to councillor Lucinda Harman, who steps down after a term defined by hands-on service, community projects and a deep commitment to residents.

Harman said her greatest gratitude comes from the chance to serve.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to really serve residents and make a difference.”

Becoming a councillor gave her access to departments and entities that allowed her to help people in ways she couldn’t before.

“I could do more than I ever imagined.”

One of the moments that will stay with her is the Blairgowrie community project, especially the transformation of the swimming pool and park.

Watching the plan unfold and seeing residents unite around a shared vision was, for her, a highlight of her tenure.

“They have become a shining example of what can happen when a community stands together.”

For Harman, the joy of the role was never about title or salary. It was about impact.

She wanted to be a thorough, present councillor, one who put residents first, communicated clearly and made time for people.

She credits her mentor for shaping the kind of leader she aimed to be, and said her goal was simple: Give Ward 102 the kind of councillor they deserved.

She hopes residents remember the wins they achieved together, including progress at the Civic Centre, consistent clean-ups in Bryanston and the revitalisation of the Blairgowrie pool and park. Above all, she hopes her efforts to be their voice in council are what remain with them.

Looking ahead, Harman wishes her successor a smooth start and a strong by-election.

“I am leaving things in place so they can step in and run.”

She hopes Ward 102 continues to rise with a councillor who can take the ward to new levels.

Her gratitude extends to everyone who supported her, residents who sent encouraging messages, her ward committee, security partners and officials who stood beside her during high-impact operations.

“Those messages came at the darkest times. I am deeply thankful for the beautiful people in this ward.”

As she turns the page, Harman is ready for a calmer chapter. She looks forward to more rest, rebuilding her personal life and refocusing on her career.

“I am ready to take all the energy I poured into the ward and put it back into my personal and professional life.”
