Crackdown outside Emeris in Sandton leaves students with fines and towed cars
JMPD officers stationed outside the varsity say they were instructed to monitor traffic, as several vehicles are fined and removed.
Students at Emeris in Sandton were met with an unexpected scene outside their school gates as Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers monitored traffic and issued fines on February 25.
Several vehicles parked near the school were either ticketed or towed away on site, leaving some students scrambling to make alternative arrangements.
An officer at the scene said they were carrying out instructions.
“We are here to work. We were told yesterday by Xolani Fihla to be here.”
The operation appeared focused on parking violations and traffic congestion around the varsity entrance, an issue that often intensifies during peak drop-off and pick-up times.
It remains unclear how many parking violations were issued or vehicles impounded, but multiple cars were seen being loaded onto tow trucks.
We have reached out for comment to JMPD to clarify the scope and duration of the monitoring operation.
