Man in the mirror conference encourages men to reflect, heal, and grow
Men from across the community gathered in Wendywood for an honest conversation on addiction, responsibility, and personal growth during a men’s conference themed: The man in the mirror.
Men were encouraged to take a closer look at their lives, confront personal struggles, and commit to positive change during a men’s conference themed: The man in the mirror, hosted by Zoe Community in Wendywood on March 21.
The conference brought together men from different backgrounds for what organisers described as a safe space to have real conversations about issues affecting men today, including addiction, work pressures, personal responsibility, and emotional wellbeing.

The programme featured a lineup of speakers who addressed different aspects of modern manhood. The morning session began with Dr Juanita Subrayadoo, who spoke about men and addiction, highlighting the importance of seeking help and building strong support systems. Her session focused on understanding the impact of addiction on individuals and families, while encouraging men to break the silence around substance abuse and other harmful habits.
Sherwin Harris followed with a presentation titled Men at Work, where he explored the pressures many men face in the workplace and the responsibility of balancing professional demands with family and personal well-being. His message centred on resilience, discipline, and adapting to the changing realities of employment and economic challenges.
The conference theme, The man in the mirror, was further unpacked by pastor David Francis, who encouraged men to reflect on their actions, values, and leadership roles within their homes and communities. He emphasised the importance of accountability, self-awareness, and making intentional decisions, which contribute to personal growth.

Event organiser pastor Justin Naidoo said the conference was created to provide men with guidance, encouragement, and practical tools to navigate life’s challenges.
He explained that many men face pressures silently and often lack safe spaces to openly discuss their struggles, which can lead to emotional distress, broken relationships, and social problems.
