African Fashion Week season two set to empower designers and grow Africa’s creative economy

Organisers say the upcoming three-day showcase in Sandton will highlight African talent, create business opportunities and position the continent as a global force in fashion and innovation.

The official launch of African Fashion Week season two has set the stage for a three-day celebration of fashion, business and cultural exchange aimed at strengthening Africa’s creative industries.

Speaking at the media launch on April 29, CEO Mpho Mogotsi described the initiative as more than just a fashion showcase, but a platform designed to unlock opportunities for entrepreneurs and creatives.

“This is more than just an event. It is a movement, a bold statement of Africa’s creative power, economic potential and global influence,” said Mogotsi.

She added that the event will take place from May 7 to May 9 at the Wakanda venue in Sandton City, bringing together leading and emerging designers, industry experts and investors. Organisers say the programme will include panel discussions, fashion showcases, networking sessions and a gala evening focused on connecting creativity with business growth.

Showcase director Annwen Jordan said diversity and representation remain central to the vision of the event.

“This is our second year with African Fashion Week, and the most exciting thing is that we get to reflect the growth, diversity and intentional development of our brands and our collective team,” she said.

Jordan added that models were intentionally selected to represent different body types and personalities, ensuring the showcase reflects the diversity of the African continent.
