Parkmore thrift shop appeals for donations for its healthcare initiatives
Greendale House Thrift Shop in Parkmore is appealing for clothing, furniture, household goods, and cash donations to help fund healthcare outreach programmes for patients living with life threatening illnesses.
The Greendale House Thrift Shop in Parkmore is appealing to the community for urgent support.
A decline in donations is affecting the organisation’s ability to fund healthcare outreach programmes for vulnerable patients. The thrift shop forms part of a broader non-profit organisation dedicated to assisting vulnerable community members through hospice and palliative care. The proceeds generated through the shop help fund home-based care initiatives, including medical visits by nurses and doctors to patients in need of medical attention.
Retail operations manager Marlvine Ndlovu said the organisation relies on public donations. “We are a non-profit organisation. We support people with life-threatening illnesses. These donations really assist in what we do to make sure that we send out our home care nurses. We send out our doctors to help the people that are in desperate need of medical attention.”

Greendale House currently operates four thrift shops branches across Johannesburg, located in Parkmore, Orange Grove, Norwood, and Kensington. Ndlovu said they are currently facing a shortage of donations and are appealing to residents, businesses, and potential sponsors to lend their support. “The stores offer a wide selection of affordable second-hand items, including clothing, books, furniture, and homeware products, such as blankets, kitchenware, and cups.
“We are currently running very, very low on donations. As you know, the economy is not doing so great, so any support, whichever way it can come, it will go in a long way to help us achieve our goals and help the vulnerable patients.
“We also need people that can come and help us to sort. We constantly need financial support and sponsorship so that we can carry on the operational expenses. You are also welcome to visit our store as we are currently running a sale on winter clothing at affordable prices that you can never get at any other shops.”
