Court issues final order to seize assets linked to Tembisa Hospital fraud
Luxury assets linked to the Tembisa Hospital corruption scandal have been permanently seized – and the health minister says law enforcement is just getting started.
Health minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has welcomed a final court order permanently seizing luxury assets linked to Hangwani Morgan Maumela, acquired through the defrauding of Tembisa Hospital.
The final court order marks a significant development in efforts to address the looting of the facility.

Motsoaledi has welcomed the outcome as an important step forward. However, the minister regards this milestone as just the beginning of a process to confiscate all assets of people involved in the looting.
He stated that there are still public servants at both Tembisa Hospital and within the Gauteng department of health who made this heinous act possible.
Their assets and pensions still have to be dealt with, and the minister has stressed the need for further action on this front.

“We implore the Assets Forfeiture Unit to expedite the recovery process.
“We are also calling upon law enforcement agencies to complete the job through the arrest and criminal prosecution of Hangwani Maumela and his ilk.
“No one should be allowed to help themselves to resources which were meant for the sick.
Only a sick society will allow that to happen without any far reaching and concrete repercussions.”
