Sandton Central ID signs 36-month tactical security agreement

The Sandton Central Improvement District has appointed 24/7 Security Services as its new tactical and monitoring partner as the precinct expands its security capabilities.

The Sandton Central Improvement District (CID) has signed a 36-month agreement with 24/7 Security Services to strengthen tactical security and monitoring across the Sandton precinct.

The partnership forms part of the CID’s ongoing efforts to respond to the changing needs of an increasingly busy and densely developed commercial and residential area. Sandton Central Management District CID manager Elaine Jack said the organisation was pleased to welcome 24/7 Security Services while continuing its long-standing relationship with Servest Security.

“We are thrilled to partner with 24/7 Security, a world-class company that will enhance our security and add value to the services which we deliver to all stakeholders within the Sandton area,” said Jack.

The CID has worked with Servest since its establishment 26 years ago. Jack said the precinct’s growing population, infrastructure demands and operational requirements had created a need for additional partnerships, staff, strategy and technology.

The new agreement also introduces the use of drone technology, which the CID is piloting with 24/7 Security Services. Jack said the drones could respond to incidents faster than patrol vehicles and reach areas that may be difficult for vehicles to access. The technology can also support disaster and event management, traffic monitoring and infrastructure inspections.

“We are testing this new technology throughout July and August. Drone First Response with enhanced situational awareness allows us to zoom in on areas of interest and monitor any activity that requires prompt attention,” she said.

The CID said the drone solution complies with applicable South African Civil Aviation Authority regulations and certification requirements.

24/7 Security Services chief operating officer Neville Rothfusz said the agreement was an important milestone for the company.

“A CID is far more than an additional layer of security. It is a partnership between property owners, businesses, local government, and service providers, all working towards a common goal: creating cleaner, safer and better-managed urban spaces where businesses can thrive, and communities can feel proud of where they work and live,” he said.

The CID is funded primarily through supplementary precinct levies paid by commercial and private property owners within the area.

Jack said security remained central to the CID’s work as Sandton continued to attract new investment and development.

“The cranes are back. We work every day so that Sandton can remain a preferred business and hospitality destination.”

She pointed to new residential developments, the conversion of the former FNB Conference Centre into an Emeris education campus, and the return of residential activity as signs of Sandton’s continued growth.

The CID will continue working with partners including 24/7 Security Services, Servest, Vumacam, JMPD and SAPS to support safety across the precinct.
