Michael Mount boys’ volleyball team breaks new ground at Mahikeng Tournament
Michael Mount’s U19 boys’ volleyball team finished fourth at the Mahikeng Tournament, reaching new heights in the competition and showing the strength of its growing team spirit.
Michael Mount’s U19 boys’ volleyball team may not have returned from the Mahikeng Tournament with a medal, but their fourth-place finish represented a major step forward for the team.
Competing for three days, the boys produced one of their strongest tournament performances yet. Boys’ team captain Erva King said the result was particularly meaningful because the team had never previously made it beyond the quarter-finals at the tournament. “I think this tournament was one of our best tournaments as a team, because we have never made it past the quarter-finals, especially in this tournament.”

He described the achievement as a major step forward for the team and praised the players for how they performed together. “This was actually quite a massive step forward for our team. I think we played amazingly well, and we played really connected this year.”
For Erva, one of the biggest differences was the connection between the players. He said previous teams had experienced a noticeable gap between teammates, but this year the players felt more united. “This year was the first year we felt really connected as a team, and I think it showed in our playing.”
The team faced several strong opponents, including sides with players who had been playing together for much longer. Despite this, Erva said Michael Mount’s team spirit helped the boys compete against some of the tournament’s strongest teams. “Our team connection and the Michael Mount spirit of playing as one family showed in our results against those teams.
