Comic Con Africa, with Capitec, returns to the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec from September 24 to 27, bringing four days of pop culture, gaming, and entertainment to the city.

The seventh edition is expected to attract about 70 000 visitors, with fans able to explore everything from cosplay and comics to gaming, anime, collectables, and tabletop games. Cosplayers can compete in daily competitions and the Cosplay Championships, with the overall winner earning an expenses-paid trip to compete in the UK in 2027.

The festival’s Artist Alley will feature more than 200 local and international artists, offering visitors the chance to buy artwork, meet creators, and attend talks and sketch battles.

Gaming fans can enjoy esports tournaments, free-to-play zones, competitions, and technology showcases, while Otaku Town will focus on anime, Japanese culture, food, and collectables. Pokémon fans can also celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Collectors can browse comics, manga, figurines, clothing, Funko Pops, and other merchandise, while board game and tabletop RPG enthusiasts can learn games, including Dungeons & Dragons and Catan.

Families are also catered for, with the 1 200sqm KidsCon Zone offering crafts, gaming, dress-up activities, and workshops. Mario and Luigi will also be among the characters roaming the festival.

International guests include Rick & Morty voice actors Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, and Spencer Grammer, God of War voice actor Christopher Judge, X-Men voice actor Alison Sealy-Smith, and The Rookie actor Richard T Jones.

Outdoor attractions will include a World War II LARPing zone, axe throwing, driving and scooter tracks, lawn games, food trucks, and live performances.

The festival runs daily from 09:00 to 18:00.
