NH Johannesburg Sandton marked the official launch of the Saving the Wild wine collection with a spring afternoon celebrating wine, food and wildlife conservation on September 19.

Held in the hotel’s Rose Garden, the event brought together Minor Hotels, Saving the Wild and Hoopenburg Wine Estate for an experience centred on three wines inspired by endangered African species. Guests were introduced to the rhino, elephant and pangolin wines, with each bottle carrying a story linked to the species it represents.

The afternoon aimed to give guests an opportunity to learn more about the collection while highlighting the importance of protecting vulnerable wildlife.

The wines were paired with signature dishes prepared by chef Donaldson Madubela, with the menu designed to complement the different characteristics of each wine. A sommelier guided guests through the flavours and inspiration behind the collection while explaining the connection between the wines and wildlife conservation.

The relaxed setting of the Rose Garden added to the occasion as guests sampled the wines, enjoyed the food and engaged with the conservation message behind the collection.

The launch also highlighted how hospitality and wine experiences can be used to introduce guests to causes beyond the dining table.

Through the Saving the Wild collection, the collaboration seeks to connect wine lovers with conservation by using the stories of Africa’s endangered species to encourage greater awareness and support for wildlife protection.
