Sandton SPCA rescues 2 dogs at a derelict property in Marlboro Gardens

A tip-off from a concerned resident led to the rescue of two dogs in a property suspected to be abandoned.

Two dogs are recovering at the Sandton SPCA following their removal from a dirty, poorly maintained property in Marlboro Gardens.

Inspectors visited the site after receiving a report from a concerned member of the public regarding suspected animal abandonment.

Inspectors manager Xolane Mncube said that upon arrival, they found two thin dogs standing at the gate and offered them food and water through the fence.

Despite knocking, inspectors received no response from the property’s occupants. Concerned about the animals’ condition, the team obtained a warrant from the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court authorising their removal.

Accompanied by members of the Bramley SAPS, Mncube returned to execute the warrant. Once inside, Mncube discovered the animals had no drinking water, inadequate shelter, and required urgent veterinary attention.

“The dogs were subsequently removed and taken to the Sandton SPCA, where they could receive the veterinary assessment and care they needed. A case of alleged animal cruelty is to be opened for further investigation,” said Mncube.

Following the rescue, the animal welfare organisation appealed to the public for donations towards fuel expenses.

Mncube said rising petrol prices are placing increasing pressure on the resources needed to investigate cruelty reports, attend emergencies, and rescue animals.

“Every animal rescue begins with a call for help. But answering that call takes more than a caring heart; it takes a vehicle, fuel, and the resources to get our inspectors where they are needed most.”

Mncube appealed to residents, businesses, and animal lovers to donate towards fuel costs.

“Any amount you can afford will make a difference. Your donation helps keep our inspectors moving, enables us to respond to more complaints, and gives vulnerable animals a better chance of receiving the care and protection they deserve.

“When you donate towards fuel, you are helping us reach the next animal who needs us. Thank you for standing with us and for caring about the animals who have no voice of their own.”
