Kamohelo Skhosana Foundation hopes to bring festive cheer to 100 children

The foundation is appealing to community members and businesses to assist with essential school supplies and festive cheer ahead of the new academic year.

For some families, Christmas means unwrapping gifts and spending time together.

For others, the festive season can be a reminder of the essentials their households struggle to afford.

The Kamohelo Skhosana Foundation hopes to bridge that gap by bringing gifts, support and a sense of belonging to 100 children through its annual Christmas Drive on December 12.

Based in Bramley, the non-profit organisation is appealing to residents and businesses to contribute towards a campaign that aims to make the festive season brighter for children aged six to 14 while helping their families prepare for the year ahead.

Founder and executive director Kamohelo Skhosana said the initiative was about more than distributing presents. It was an opportunity to show children that their communities cared about their well-being.

“Christmas is a time for giving, spreading love and bringing people together. It is a time when we are reminded that sometimes the smallest act of kindness can make a child feel seen, remembered and loved,” she said.

While toys and clothing can bring excitement on Christmas Day, the foundation is also prioritising items that families will need when schools reopen. School shoes and school bags are among the most needed donations, alongside non-perishable food, clothing and toys.

The foundation also welcomes monetary contributions and new or gently used clothing and toys, provided the items are clean, safe and suitable for the intended age group.

Skhosana said these contributions could help relieve some of the financial pressure experienced by households during the festive season, particularly those already struggling to meet everyday expenses.

She added that school shoes and bags would help families prepare for the new academic year, while food donations could ease the pressure on household budgets.

The foundation is encouraging individuals and organisations to contribute whatever they can, emphasising that meaningful change does not always require large donations.

Skhosana said when people worked together, small contributions could make a significant difference in a child’s life.

“When we come together and give what we can, we can change someone’s life, even through the smallest act of kindness. Together, these small acts of kindness can become something incredibly meaningful for a child,” she said.
