Girl’s schools compete in sports and culture

Pupils from 20 girls high schools in five provinces will contest annual week-long National All-Girls State School Sport and Cultural Festival at Parktown High School for Girls from 25 to 28 April.

The event will bring more than 1 000 young women athletes and cultural warriors, competing in nine codes of culture and sport.

Parktown High School for Girls also celebrates its 90th birthday this year, and will use various venues to host the event.

The hockey tournament will be at St Stithians in Randburg, netball and chess at Parktown Girls, squash at Parkview, and tennis at Parktown, Parkview Senior School, Parkwood Tennis Club and St Stithians.

Arts and culture make up five codes in the annual event. Dance contests start on 26 April, up to the finals at the closing ceremony on 28 April at Parktown Girls.

Orchestras and playwrights will start on 26 April, preparing a short performance for the closing ceremony on the Sunday.

Visual arts students will work on a exhibit, and vocal ensembles will perform at the closing event.

Claire Johnston, the face and voice of Mango Groove, will speak at the opening on 25 April at 7pm at Parktown High School for Girls.
