Fallen tree captures hearts and determination of residents

Strathavon residents are concerned about the area's natural heritage, following the uprooting of a tree, allegedly by Joburg Water excavation works.

A FALLEN tree at the intersection of Linden Street and Grosvenor Drive, Strathavon has stirred protest from residents who are concerned about the demolition of the area’s natural heritage.

Sandton resident Jackie Saks said, “I drive past the tree each morning and am saddened each time I see it.” She alleged construction work by Joburg Water staff had resulted in a hole being dug in the pavement area and the tree uprooted.
Resident Geoff Line confirmed the hole was dug and the tree uprooted by Joburg Water on 25 February this year. He said this work had been done to attend to a leak in the water system.

Joburg Water had not provided the Chronicle with comment at the time of going to print.
