Premier pays tribute to the late MEC

JOBURG - The ANC in Gauteng has confirmed that Gauteng MEC for Economic Development Nkosiphendule Kolisile has died in a car accident.

The late Gauteng Economic Development MEC Nkosiphendule Kkolisile will not be replaced.
Premier Nomvula Mokonyane told a media briefing on Saturday there was no urgency in the matter. She added that her and other MECs would assist Kolisile’s department where necessary.

Mokonyane could not hold back her tears as she paid tribute to Kolisile, who became MEC in July 2012.
Kolisile died in an accident on the N6 in Reddersburg that also claimed the lives of his driver Sergeant Tebogo Motsie and his bodyguard Tshepo Jobo. He was on his way to a funeral in the Eastern Cape.
Mokonyane spoke slowly as she explained what she had been told of the accident: “According to an witness, there was an ambulance needing to pass.

“The MEC’s driver gave way. However, he was hit by another car and skidded into the path of an an oncoming truck. The MECs car then went under the truck, killing the three men instantly. The ambulance did not stop. ”

Kolisile is survived by his wife and four children. He will receive a provincial funeral.
Mokonyane praised Kolisile and said he was a great leader who encouraged and practiced participatory management style.

“His approach to the thorny issue of liquor regulations is a case in point,” she said.
Mokonyane further mentioned that Kolisile showed his caring side when his department donated houses to three disadvantaged and disabled families on Mandela Day in Randfontein.

“He steered the economic development portfolio with zeal and vigour. Kolisile infused his energy into the portfolio, introducing innovative measures to ensure that the provincial economy is inclusive and benefits some of the most marginalized sections of our population such as informal traders, the youth and small businesses and cooperatives.”

The ANC in Gauteng has confirmed that Gauteng MEC for Economic Development Nkosiphendule Kolisile has died in a car accident.

According to Eye Witness News, the MEC’s driver and bodyguard were also killed in the accident.

The accident occurred in the Free State. The MEC was en route to the Eastern Cape to attend a funeral.
