The children spent 67 minutes in service to make South Africa a better place. Pupils aged between four and 13 collected old newspapers and magazines for recycling. The proceeds will be donated to the Johannesburg Children’s Home. The school has also offered to contribute a part of the takings of the school concert ticket sales to the home.
The senior children collected clothes, shoes and books for donations to various charities. They also prepared homemade sandwiches for Little Eden in Edenvale.
The Grade 4 children spent time reading books and teaching an extra special Happy Birthday song to the Grade 0 children, and together they sang their rendition of it in honour of Mandela’s birthday. The Grade 7 children created mugs and filled them with delicious treats for donation to an old aged home.
The school also undertook a litter collection to tidy up the environment. As Mandela had said, “Few things make the life of a parent more rewarding and sweet as successful children”.
