Joburg Zoo opens wheelchair-friendly playground

FORREST TOWN - Children had fun at the opening ceremony of the newly-constructed wheelchair-friendly playground at the Joburg Zoo.

The R1 million project was the brainchild of Redefine Properties, which partnered with City Parks.

Employees of both entities joined the children as they played at the facility.

The playground’s resistant flooring allows children and adults to handle any fall.

The day’s most popular feature was the wheelchair-friendly swings. All the wheelchair-bound children had to do was open the box-swing’s back end, wheel their chair in, and start swinging.

Redefine Properties CEO Marc Wainer said, “Children are the future of South Africa and this is only the beginning for us.” His organisation would look after the playground for the next three years.

Ward councillor Tim Truluck was also in attendance, and Joburg Zoo’s conservation general manager, Tshepang Makganye, expressed how proud they were to have such a world class playground inside the zoo.
