Miss SA finalists engage with Varsity College students

SANDTON - Varsity College students were excited to be treated to a talk by Miss South Africa finalists.

The lovely ladies engaged with students on topics such as self esteem, morals and values, and a balanced lifestyle of academics, work and social time.

According to finalist Jade Hübner, community involvement was never on her list of priorities. “I thought spending time with people who are struggling would make me feel depressed,” she said.

But, after she spent some time helping the community by walking abandoned dogs, she felt fulfilled, she said.

Finalist Miska Patel was asked to speak about morals and values.

“I believe that people develop their morals and standards at home, and learn from their families, environments, government and school,” she said.

She thinks typical values are honesty, integrity, compassion, courage and responsibility; this is what makes us who we are.

Finalist Rolene Strauss spoke about balance in life. She said, “Sometimes academics, work and play don’t fit into the same sentence, but it doesn’t matter, as long as you still have those things.”

A few students from the audience were given their moment to ask the finalists about self esteem and values, and each respondent related anecdotes from their paths to success and confidence.

The finalists thanked the students for taking the time to share their thoughts and, to the students’ delight, were photographed with them.
