Acres of love for house mothers

BRYANSTON - The non-profit organisation Acres of Love showed their appreciation to their hard working house mothers by hosting a Wellness Day.

The organisation operates homes for abandoned infants and children,

Acres of Love was established in 1998, opening its doors in Bryanston, and grew exponentially with homes operating around South Africa. “We children, all either abandoned or suffering from disabilities such Down syndrome and cerebral palsy,” said Ines Pritz, the medical co-ordinator at Acres of Love.

The Wellness Day was held for the house mothers, giving them the opportunity to check their health with free optometrist consultations and blood tests, while given a chance to relax by getting a massage.

Pritz said, “These ladies work so hard and they don’t find the time [for] themselves so we thought it would be nice for them to have their eyes or blood pressure checked. It’s just so they can do some of the important things they can’t find time to do, and enjoy a nice massage.”

Lydia Mohale, spokesperson for ASI Financial Services which helped organise the day, said the house mothers were given a presentation from a financial planner who also gave them one-on-one consultations.

House mother since 2008, Thembi Khumalo said, “Working for Acres of Love is a calling, and helping those in need is so rewarding, and this day is just an add on to help us assist those in need while staying in the best health.”
