Chinese manufactures and African buyers come together

SANDTON – The Sandton Convention Centre recently played host to the inaugural China Homelife and China Machinex showcase from 1 to 3 September.

The exhibition, hosted by Meorient International Exhibition, took place over three days and saw visitors treated to a wide variety of products available from Chinese manufacturers.

The exhibition included a variety of products across eight product segments, namely hardware and tools, building materials, home electronics and appliances, textiles, garments and furniture.

Eric Pan, chairperson of Meorient International Exhibition, expressed excitement at bringing the show to African shores. “Fairs such as China Homelife and China Machinex create opportunities for buyers to source quality products directly from Chinese suppliers and manufacturers, further increasing trade between South Africa and China,” he said.

Adding to this was chief operating officer of Meorient International Exhibition, Binu Pillai, who explained that it was also a way to create business opportunities between Chinese manufacturers and African buyers.

He said developing countries such as South Africa played an important role in the company’s global strategy. “We’re glad to see the type of business that has come out of all the three shows hosted already,” he said.

The exhibition forms part of the global series of events which take place in nine countries. Adnaan Grimsel, representing Africorp, concluded by stressing the importance of exhibitions such as these, saying they were useful for the construction industry because they bring together various partners. “It also brings together the local and regional business fraternity, allowing us to see what China has to offer our market; it’s great to [do] business under one roof,” he said.
