Housebreaking in Bryanston left family terrified. A resident was held at gunpoint in his house by two masked armed robbers. They stole jewellery, three laptops and their car. The incident occurred on 8 March during the day.
The homeowner [who wishes to remain anonymous] was alone as his family had gone out. The perpetrators broke their swing gate to gain entry into their premises. The house was not locked.
“I was on the couch when two guys with buffs and caps came up to me and told me to stay calm, asked if there is anyone else in the house and do as they say,” said the owner.
The armed men cable-tied him and asked where he kept his safe. They used a bank bag and a pillow case to carry everything they stole. One of the men asked where he kept his car keys.
“I heard the car start and waited for a few minutes. I managed to get myself free from the cable ties and I grabbed the panic remote. I ran into the corner bushes and then pressed the panic button which made the alarms go on,” he added.
The security company responded immediately and they came along with the police.
The car was later found dumped near a guesthouse in Bryanston. A case was opened the same day at the Randburg Police Station.
“The police are still investigating the case. No one has been arrested as yet,” said Captain Makgowanyana Maja spokesperson for the Randburg Police Station.
The owner’s wife said that she felt like the robberies were starting to become a habit as it was not the first time housebreaking happened in their area. She would advise other residents to always lock their properties as one would never know when and how this would happen.
