Residents warned to keep their valuables out of sight

SANDTON – Station commander Egen Moodley requests the community to work with police and other law enforcement agencies to discourage criminal activities in the Sandton Policing Precinct.

Sandton police put about 50 suspects behind bars for different crimes during early December following various operations by police and other law enforcement agencies.

Spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station Captain Bheki Xulu said four suspects were apprehended for car hijacking, nine for general theft, one for dealing in drugs, six for dealing in dagga, seven for fraud, one for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, three for shoplifting, four for business break-in, one for trespassing, two for common assault, one for malicious damage to property, four for reckless and negligent driving, one for common robbery, two for sexual offences, two for cable theft, one for culpable homicide and one for possession of dagga.

Xulu said while joint and focused operations were yielding good results, theft out of motor vehicle and car hijacking were still a challenge, particularly on Fridays.

β€œThe public are requested to not leave valuable items exposed inside their cars, particularly in malls and shopping centres,” said Xulu.

Station Commander Egen Moodley requested the community to work with police and other law enforcement agencies to discourage criminal activities in the Sandton Policing Precinct by reporting crime to Crime Stop on 086 001 0111 or Sandton police on 011 722 4200.
