Buccleuch resident arrested for lying under oath regarding car hijacking

BUCCLEUCH – Station Commander at Sandton police Brigadier Egen Moodley gave a strong warning regarding false reports.

Sandton police arrested 39-year-old Buccleuch resident Khanyanyile Sibanda for making a false statement under oath, claiming that his car was hijacked.

Spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station Captain Bheki Xulu said Sibanda had opened a case of car hijacking with the Sandton police, claiming that he and his family were hijacked at the corner of Old Pretoria Road and Maxwell Drive in Buccleuch on 29 October last year.

According to Xulu, Sibanda claimed that he and his family were thrown out of their car by four unknown male suspects.

“In the investigation conducted, it was revealed by the Johannesburg North Trio Task Team that Sibanda sold the car to someone and there was a dispute between them regarding their deal,” said Xulu.

“On 15 December, he was arrested and it was concluded that he lied under oath about his car being hijacked.”

Sibanda appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 17 December.

Station Commander at the Sandton police Brigadier Egen Moodley gave a strong warning regarding false reports. He said no stone would be left unturned regarding all serious cases.

Community members are requested to work with police and other law enforcement agencies to discourage criminal activities in the Sandton policing precinct by reporting crime to Sandton police on 011 722 4200 or to Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
