30 years of service for SAPS

SANDTON – Warrant Officer Malesela Alpheus is retiring after 30 years of service in SAPS

Warrant Officer Malesela Alpheus has said his last goodbyes to his colleagues at the Sandton Police Station. At the age of 59 and being in service for 30 years, he said that he would like to focus on his health and his faith.

“I was 29 years old when I joined SAPS and honestly it has been one of my greater decisions. I really love what I do. The best thing for me in my career has been working hard and working harder at it.”

Joining Sandton Police Station 21 years ago, Alpheus mentioned that he has learnt a lot while being in service, from communicating effectively to new experiences.

“The best thing about being a police officer was helping the community I serve. I started out at Joburg Central and volunteered to join Sandton when the crime rates were extremely high in the area back in 2000,” he said.

Malesela said that in order to succeed in such a role one needs to be patient and possess excellent people skills.

“We always deal with different things, it is vital to come to work with a clear mind and ready to assist in all aspects.”

With 30 years of experience behind his name, Malesela’s advice to young trainees is to always remain honest, dedicated and professional.

“I loved what I do and now it’s to rest. I’m happy to be part of such a prestigious organisation.”
