Sandton Police Station featured many times in the recently-released fourth quarter crime statistics for 2020/2021 January to March period.
Common robbery incidents saw Sandton place 15th in Gauteng and 22nd nationally, however, with a 50.9 per cent decrease in crime in comparison to last year. There were 53 reported incidents over the period this year in comparison to 108 last year.
Sandton again placed 9th in Gauteng for incidents of robbery with aggravating circumstances with 167 cases this year, indicating a 17.7 per cent decrease from last year. Bramley placed 29th in Gauteng for this crime, reporting 122 incidents over the recent period, remaining relatively consistent with 121 incidents reported during the period last year.
Sandton also placed 6th in Gauteng and 11th nationally for incidents of trio crimes. These crimes include hijacking, robbery at residential premises and robbery at non-residential premises. The station recorded 101 incidents over the recent period, indicating an increase of 20.2 per cent from last year.
Bramley also placed 19th in Gauteng for trio crimes with 67 incidents over the period this year, showing an increase of 45.7 per cent in comparison to last year.
Sandton placed 8th in Gauteng for hijacking and 14th nationally with 40 incidents reported over the period, indicating a 73.9 per cent increase. Bramley placed 15th for hijacking in Gauteng with 35 incidents this year – an increase of 52.2 per cent.
While robberies at residential premises decreased by 24 per cent in Sandton over the recent period, the station still placed 6th in Gauteng and 16th nationally in this category with 38 incidents this year. Bramley placed 25th in Gauteng with 21 incidents – an increase of 50 per cent from last year.
Robberies at non-residential premises in Sandton saw a 109 per cent increase with 23 incidents over the recorded period, placing the station in 17th place in Gauteng.
Sandton also saw an increase in sexual offences cases, with 24 cases in comparison to 17 over the same period last year.
Sandton placed 19th in Gauteng for property-related crimes, with 300 incidents this year – a decrease of 48.9 per cent. Burglaries at residential premises decreased slightly from 116 last year to 104 this year. Burglaries at non-residential premises saw a decrease of 20.4 per cent with 39 incidents.
The station placed 9th in Gauteng for theft out of motor vehicles, recording 125 incidents – a decrease of 66 per cent.
Sandton also placed 5th in Gauteng for other serious crimes. This includes all theft not mentioned in another category including commercial crime and shoplifting. The station recorded 564 incidents over the period – a decrease of 29.1 per cent. This broke down to 267 incidents of theft not mentioned elsewhere, 242 incidents of commercial crime and 55 shoplifting incidents.
The station placed 34th in Gauteng for crime detected as a result of police action, with 140 incidents this year, indicating a 37 per cent increase. The station placed 1st in Gauteng and 5th nationally for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition detected as a result of police action with 37 incidents in comparison to one over the comparative period. The station also placed 7th in Gauteng for sexual offences detected as a result of police action with 20 incidents.
