Benmore and Lower roads clear following alleged protest action

BENMORE – Motorists are advised to be cautious in the area.

Traffic is flowingonce again on Benmore and Lower roads following protest action on July 28.

It was alleged that the protest was the result of a labour dispute at one of the residential construction sites next to Benmore Shopping Centre.

Sandton Central Management District reported that a meeting was currently taking place at the Sandton Police Station with representatives of the construction workers, director of the company and law enforcement.

Alleged protest action on Benmore and Lower roads, Benmore, on July 28, is being monitored by local authorities.

SAPS and JMPD are on the scene in Benmore, Sandton. An eyewitness, who lives in the area, saw protesters throwing rocks at a JMPD vehicle.

A fire was set outside a residential building that is still under construction. It has been alleged that the workers at this site are protesting due to a lack of payment for work.

JMPD in a statement on social media said, “The situation is calm at the moment and traffic is flowing. Officers are on scene, motorists are advised to exercise caution.”
