Wynberg robbery suspect arrested

Wynberg – The suspect was apprehended by private security officers and two firearms were found in his possession.

One suspect was arrested following a robbery at a luxury clothing store in Wynberg.

It was alleged that eight people entered the store on August 19 and held up the staff with firearms.

According to Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi, the suspects allegedly took clothing, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash from the store. They also disarmed one of the employees of his firearm.

“Further information revealed that when the alleged robbers were going out of the store, one of them was left behind. On his way out he was met with the local [private] security reaction vehicle where a shoot-out ensued.”

Mogodi added that the suspect ran towards Old Pretoria Main Road where he allegedly attempted to hijack a vehicle but failed. “He [the suspect] continued and managed to hijack another vehicle, a high-speed chase continued into Alexandra where the shoot-out continued,” said Mogodi.

The suspect was finally apprehended by private security officers after sustaining injuries, two firearms were found in his possession.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains under police guard.

“The team of investigators are searching for the remaining suspects.”
