Captain Bheki Xulu warns the public to stay vigilant from fake police officers
SANDTON – "This, however, does not prevent the criminals from carrying out their criminal activities, but it reduces them from taking full advantage of the situation," says spokesperson of Sandton Police Station, Captain Bheki Xulu.
Criminals are opportunists and can quickly adapt to the environment that they are situated in. Most of the time that would mean that they would use disguise as a form of weapon, according to Sandton police.
While the 21st century has given a lot of people the opportunity to live life freely and easily, this has also given criminals the tools to ensure that they carry out their criminal activities without or with little detection from the victims or from the police. From using tracking devices to posing as police officers, criminals have truly mastered the art of stealing.
Sandton Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bheki Xulu, shared a few safety tips for drivers who might be stopped by criminals posing as police officers during the night. He said, “The communities must know their hotspots in terms of different crimes related to that area in order to remain safe.
Talking about Sandton policing precinct, to be stopped at night by an unmarked vehicle with or without a police registration plate can be very dangerous, but the key thing is to stop where there is light or next to a fuel station or even better, by the police station.
“This, however, does not prevent the criminals from carrying out their criminal activities, but it [prevents] them from taking full advantage of the situation.”
The captain urges civilians to always be vigilant and most importantly, to remain smart and calm.
