Drakensberg Boys Choir makes a comeback after four years

The Mandela at Joburg Theatre finally welcomes the Drakensberg Boys Choir to perform in late June after their four years of stage hiatus.

After a long pause from performing on prestige stages, the Drakensburg Boys Choir finally make their comeback to grace the eyes and ears of the audiences at the Joburg Theatre.

The Mandela at Joburg Theatre is considered to be the first venue in Gauteng in which the choir will perform at in late June. A few members of the choir, who reside in Sandton and Rivonia, said they were pleased to get back on stage.

Rohan Naidoo, who has been a part of the choir for four years, shared what he mostly looks forward to at the Joburg Theatre performance. “I’m looking forward to the fact that we are performing elsewhere than our auditorium.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit the school like a ton of bricks, but for us to be performing at the Joburg Theatre shows us that events are opening up and the school’s future is brighter than ever.”

The venue, which has welcomed local and international artists such as Ipi Ntombi, Ed Sheeran and Imagine Dragons, will open its doors to the choir in late June.

Sectary of the Drakensberg Boys Choir School Parent Association, Heather Kuypers, shared the ultimate goal of the choir. “The mission of the Drakensberg Boys Choir School is to prepare boys for life and leadership through excellence in music, academics, physical development and social enrichment, in a Christian environment.”
