Sandton Police ranks top in commercial crimes reported
The latest crime statistics show a concerning increase in commercial crimes in the Sandton policing precinct.

In the latest crime statistics for the fourth quarter of 2021/2022, the Sandton policing precinct recorded the highest number of commercial crimes nationally from January to March this year.
Commercial crimes include corruption, fraud, forgery, embezzlement, and money laundering.
Common assault and theft of a motor vehicle/motorcycle also saw significant increases. Common assault saw a 52.2% increase from the 57 cases reported in the same three-month period last year while theft of a motor vehicle/motorcycle recorded an 81.3% increase from the 32 cases reported.
Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition decreased by 89.2% from 37 cases reported last year.
According to Police Minister Bheki Cele at the presentation of the statistics on June 3, police need deeper working relationships with the community, built on trust, commitment and delivery.
“Police need the community and the community need the police. Work closely with Community Policing Forums and adopt a strategy that promotes community-centred policing.”
Cele added that the ministry will be taking a more proactive approach in assisting law enforcement, lending support to the management teams to help restore the trust that has been broken in some communities.
“After all, police officers cannot police communities they are not part of. Everyone has a job to do, do it and do it well.”
