One arrested and three dead in shootout on Marlboro Drive

Sandton Police Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley commends police for 'blue light' arrest.

Private security companies and members of the South Africa Police Service were involved in a high speed chase that led to a fatal shootout with the suspected ‘blue light’ robbers who had been terrorising the Sandton area.

Officials of crime intelligence were tipped off about the suspects who were suspected of multiple hijackings and armed robberies around Sandton and in other northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

The suspects were identified by the Gauteng highway patrol on June 8 at about 19:00 in a Ford Figo. The suspects began shooting at the officials after a high speed chase had ensued. As the four suspects made their way to Marlboro Drive, the driver lost control and crashed into a wall.

The suspects jumped out of the vehicle and continued firing shoots at the officials. Three of the blue light robbers were fatally wounded and one was arrested.

“Three unlicensed firearms and a hijacked vehicle was recovered. Well done to all involved,” said Sandton Police Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley.

Officials also retrieved a blue LED flashlight
