All the right ingredients at Bryanston Sports Club’s annual potjie day
The cold of winter could not keep the community away as Bryanston Sports Club’s 50th anniversary Potjie Pot Competition was huge success.
Bryanston Sports Club’s 50th anniversary Potjie Pot Competition saw dozens of community members brace the winter rain and cold for a fun-filled day.
According to club chairman Warren Davies, this year’s event had a fitting turnout, attracting a record number of entrants. “Each team was made up of at least four participants, while members, families and visitors were invited to sample the variety of offerings and vote for their favourite in the process.
“By midday, even the weather played its part as the clouds made way for blue skies and the live entertainment turned up the volume.”
The judges – well-known chefs Phillippe Frydman, Jeff Schueremans and Phil Kortenhoeven – recognised the high standard of cooking among this year’s entrants. The winning entry, a beef-based recipe with ‘unique flavour and flair’ belonging to the Awfully Low Carbs team, was a particular favourite.
Other notable pots included a springbok medallion dish, lamb and chicken combo, and various traditional dishes from participants visiting from Zambia, Cameroon and Eswatini.
Davies added that on the day, the club also hosted the conservation group, Pilanesberg Makanyane Volunteers. “The fundraiser generated much-needed donations to support the group’s work around wildlife conservation.”
Prizes were awarded to the top three pots, the team with the best spirit and the visitors’ vote.
