Bryanston High learners sweeps up top award at Eskom Expo

Learners from Bryanston High School were among the top performers at this year’s Regional Eskom Expo for Young Scientists.

Bryanston High School learners recently dominated at the Regional Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, with three out of four learners grabbing top finishes.

Hosted at Wits University, the science expo gathers 152 learners from the region to showcase their innovative science, engineering and social investigations.
A total of 21 learners received bronze medals, while 31 received silver and 10 received gold.

Grade 10 learners Kinisha Vairagi, Likitha Chundru, Anika Kumar and Keerthana Nair each presented their detailed projects, showcasing great promise for the future of science and innovation. Likitha received a silver medal and Keerthana received a gold medal while Anika, who received a silver medal, was also recognised at the best female.

Eskom Development Foundation CEO Cecil Ramonotsi said, “It was impressive how learners, especially previously disadvantaged learners and girls, were able to develop such innovative projects while still at school, giving assurance that the future is in good hands.

“Eskom is investing in young scientists through Eskom Expo, which forms part of a broader Eskom strategy of skills development, investing in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation (Stemi) at school level.”
