Crawford Sandton learner wins with Team SA at Maccabiah Games
A learner from Crawford International Sandton not only played for Team South Africa’s netball team in the 21st Maccabiah Games but her team also claimed a bronze medal finish.
Crawford International Sandton learner Samantha Sher recently won a bronze medal in the 21st Maccabiah Games playing for Team South Africa’s netball team.
Also known as the Jewish Games, the Maccabiah Games is a multi-sport event that takes place in Israel every four years. This year, more than 10 000 athletes from 80 countries competed across 40 different sports.

“The 21st Maccabiah Games was the most incredible experience of my life. Stepping onto the netball court to represent South Africa at the third largest multi-sporting event in the world was a remarkable feeling that will stick with me for life,” said Samantha.
As the vice-captain, the Grade 12 learner felt great pride after the team defeated Israel 57–35 to claim the bronze medal.

“I felt a huge responsibility when leading my team during the warm-ups but that feeling was definitely outweighed by the joys of our victory. I am so honoured to have had this opportunity to represent my country alongside two other Crawford Sandton members, Thea Moodley [swimming] and coach Matt Townshend [cricket].”
