With the recent Media Freedom Week highlighting the rights of journalists, the importance of ethical journalism and the freedom of sharing credible information with others, Sandton Chronicle asked visitors to the Bryanston Organic Market two questions: What is media freedom to you and what importance does it serve in your community or society?

This is what they had to say…

AMELIE VERGNON: I honestly think that it’s good for people to be express how they feel and share it with others as long as it is justifiable. We are all different and my point of view might be different from yours. We have to share, listen, be open minded and respect one another’s opinions. Photo: Motlatsi Mailuila
PETER MTHOMBENI: Like human freedom, media freedom is the ability to be able to freely express all the wrongs that you see in your community or world. Without it, an individual will [be] downtrodden or the government’s property. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
DAVID WILLIAMS: It’s one of the most important things in our world to have. If you cant express yourself, that’s not freedom. It is in our rights to express our concerns and how we feel. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
