Telkom announces partnership with the South African Netball team
Brand communications and sponsorship senior manager of Telkom Martha Nkhwashu states that the launch of 'stand tall' will promote more youth engagement which will inspire thousands of South Africans to live their dreams.
Thirteen years after South Africa welcomed the world to the 2010 Fifa World Cup, the country is set to open up their doors yet again to the world for the 2023 Netball World Cup.

Fans from all over Sandton joined in on the festivity with four representatives from the South African netball squad, including the captain of the squad, Bongi Msomi. Telkom hosted an intimate gathering to announce their partnership with the team months before they demonstrate their world-class performance in Cape Town.

The partnership known as ‘stand tall’ took place at the Venue Green Park in Morningside on February 3 which had no more than 80 supporters in attendance.

“How stand tall came into existence, we as Telkom were looking at what can we do with our netball property from the sponsorship perspective. With our support we can use netball as a vehicle to rally up the youth and inspire them to get up and take their rightful place in society and in their goals that they want to achieve, we want everyone to stand tall,” said the brand communications and sponsorship senior manager of Telkom, Martha Nkhwashu.

The ambassadors of the partnership; Bongi Msomi, Lzette Griesel, Tshina Mdau and Khanyisa Chawane, shared their stories of how netball changed their lives – with most of their fans still at school.

Mdau, who had her debut match with the national team in late 2020, discussed some of the things she looks forward to in the tournament. “We’re looking forward to showcasing our talents on African soil and seeing the supporters cheer us on. I am grateful for my teammates, coaches, supporters, my family and my small circle of friends. We’ve been working really hard and now it’s time to show the world what we are made of.”

During a panel discussion, the captain of the national netball team (Msomi) reminded participants that they cannot achieve their goals alone. “Everyone plays a vital role in your quest to the top whether you’re in a team or not. You don’t have to be in the spotlight to win.”
